After spending the last 13 years building and managing Church websites, I have found very few Pastors who have embraced the web. Most are happy to have the bulletin and calendar available to parishioners online but they do not see the value in the social networking aspect of the web or the vast opportunities available with new media. By doing so they are missing a great opportunity to attract young families to be regular visitors to their church website.

Pope Benedict, in his 2010 World Communications day message, said the following “ Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis.”  “To priests in particular the new media offer ever new and far-reaching pastoral possibilities, encouraging them to embody the universality of the Church’s mission, to build a vast and real fellowship, and to testify in today’s world to the new life which comes from hearing the Gospel of Jesus”

One Pastor who is setting an example is Rev. Austin Fleming of Holy Family Parish in Concord MA. Fr. Fleming has used his website to archive all of his letters and homilies, and has his own blog. He has embraced the Pontiff’s message and works with me to constantly keep his site fresh. This positive attitude has spread to the Holy Family staff and ministry leaders who also are now not afraid to provide ideas and think out of the box.  This is the type of client that makes my job easy.  Our fixed-cost management contract is perfect for them because it does not cost them a dime to keep their site fresh.  If you are a Pastor or parish manager and would like to talk about your church website, please click here to find out how to get started.

I have started an offshoot of MassPromotions called MyParishWeb to specifically service the needs of churches and parishes. We are offering the same level of service on a contract basis to any church or parish for $899 a year instead of the $1099 small business contracts we offer.

One of my favorite clients is Peggy Ferguson, owner of Bullfinchs Restaurant in Sudbury.  She asked me to put together a quick site for a great new endeavor of hers, a cupcake cart on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.  For a couple hundred bucks I put this draft together for her.  She wanted to try to see if she could do this one on her own, without me managing it so we will see how it goes.  My feeling is no matter how small the website, our fixed-cost contract solution is always a good call.  It would have covered her hosting and domain name as well as having free modifications to the custom graphics, menu bars and text of the site for a year.   I am always available for design only jobs @ $50 an hour.

Here is a cool draft I have been working on for a good friend of mine Dana Berger who is a talented paintless dent removal specialist who recently has gone out on his own after working for many years for a major dent removal company.  He was looking to market his services to dealers mainly and the general public secondarily.  By working on the dealerships, he is able to do many more cars than if he hs to travel from job to job so this is a big advantage for him.  I came up with this draft for him.  A sports car dented up that un-dents when you mouse over it like a before and after.  I really thin the black theme looks nice for this application.
